A simple website for a local church
Cornerstone Bible Fellowship is a two-year-old church plant of about 80 people that meets in a school. Service times, directions, and announcements all lived in a Messenger group chat. That works for members, but someone who hasn't been invited yet can't find any of it.
Practice project: Cornerstone is a fictional client. I completed the proposal, website, and launch checklist so you can inspect the working result.
The brief
The first thing a would-be visitor does is search the church's name. For Cornerstone, nothing came back: no address, no service time, nothing about what the church believes. The ask was the essentials: service times, a location map, about & beliefs, giving info, and a contact form.
I built it as one page: enough information for a first-time visitor, without adding sections that would be difficult to maintain.
What I made
- A responsive one-page site in the church's own look, with stone and clay colours and an open-door arch taken from its name.
- A live, interactive map with no API key and no monthly fee.
- A contact-form demonstration with validation and silent spam protection; a real client deployment would receive its own form endpoint.
- A mobile menu that works without JavaScript, so there's less to break.
- A social-share card, so the link looks trustworthy when someone drops it into a group chat, which is how most people will share it.
- A 20-minute go-live checklist: free hosting, HTTPS, security headers.
When the wish list arrived
Mid-build, the requests came the way they always do: sermon audio! member login! livestream! Each was a fair idea, and each would have pushed back the launch.
Because the proposal named the first phase clearly, new requests could be recorded for a later quote without delaying the launch. Where a feature wouldn't justify its cost, like a member login for 80 people, I'd recommend the simpler free option.
Includes design, build, working form, share card, and deployment to free hosting under the church's own domain. Phase 2 features quoted separately, only when they're needed.
